Work begins on the signal square

Work has begun on the project for the summer which is to resurface the signal square. The original is now very badly cracked and sunken in places that it is beyond repair.

The square will be resurfaced with 3" of concrete and return it to its war time condition. When complete it will be painted black with the band around the outside painted white. A gallery will be online as the work continues.

Air Raid Shelter

Work is progressing well on the Stanton air raid shelter that has been erected on the northern side of the control tower. Both end elevations have now been bricked and doors fitted. Internal seating benches are now installed giving school visits an extra insight into wartime life.

Currently the members of the Saturday morning working party are close to completing the blast walls on the southern elevation, it is hoped to complete all these walls over the winter period in order for the shelter to be cover with earth in the spring.
Anderson Shelter

On Saturday November 3rd, a number of our group members travelled to St.Clears to dismantle an Anderson air shelter. The steel sections were transported back to Carew for a renovation programme to begin.
