Ty Croes OAP day out in South Pembs
Groups visiting the museum at Carew Cheriton Control Tower can expect to be dressed up in wartime uniforms but Carl Hopkins got a shock when he volunteered and was asked to wear a pair of 1940s woolen swimming trucks.
Carl, who spent 7 years in the Merchant Navy, was visiting the museum with more than 30 members of Ty Croes & District OAP Association from Carmarthenshire and remembered how hard it was to keep the trunks up once they got wet!
The OAP Association makes regular day coach trips out around West Wales but were surprised how entertaining and informative 2 ½ hours could be at the wartime museum. After trip organiser Mary Rees had booked the trip several members said they hadn’t expected the visit would last more than 30 minutes but having been they would recommend the museum to anyone and would suggest they allowed plenty of time to take it all in.
The outing was rounded off with a trip to Tenby and a fish and chip lunch.
